Shirin Neshat (Irán, 1957) lives and works in the USA since 1974. Her work has been exihibited at the most important museums and art centers just like Documenta XI (2002) and Whitney Museum Biennale (2000). In 1999 she got Gold Lion at the XLVIII Venice Biennale and in 2009 received Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival for her film Women without Men.
Shirin Neshat's art work debate between muslim women condition, cultural identity search and The West prejudice. Through her photos, she has explored the way men and women are separeted in muslim society, showing the construction and politization of public space and the personal desire confinement to the private sphere.
