Niki de Saint Phalle (France, 1930–United States, 2002) set the pace of the cultural landscape of the second half of the 20th century with her unmistakeable style. She forged an extraordinarily personal universe in which autobiographical references merge with cultural and political ones. Published on the occasion of the retrospective that the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is holding on her oeuvre, this book explores the career of this French artist through her works and the texts that she herself wrote. The volume presents everything from her earliest paintings in the 1950’s to the large sculptures that she dreamt up just two years before her death.
