From the thirties up to the present day, Spanish design has taken paths both unusual and little-travelled, somewhere between brilliant and eccentric. It has become a permanent object of desire for photographers from Spain and abroad.

Richard Avedon and Irving Penn captured the sculptural qualities of Balenciaga suits, while Henry Clake found inspiration for his exquisite and exotic images in the designs of Elio Berhanyer and Pertegaz. In Spain, photographers like Oriol Maspons, Juana Biarnés and Leopoldo Pomés used designs as a narrative element in images reflecting the nation’s cultural and political  awakening in the sixties. The links between designers and photographers were strengthened with the arrival of democracy, thus Juan Gatti captured the poetry and symbolism of Sybilla’s clothing, in the same way that Javier Vallhonrat’s lightning completes the creations of Jesús del Pozo. Along with them, essential photographers like William Klenin, José Manuel Ferrater, Steven Meisel and Sylvia Polakov, among many others.

A volume which offers a previously unseen view of the explosion of creativity contained within Spanish fashion, whose power photography has found a way to capture in all its splendor.
