Matador’s Dictionary of Illustrious Lives is an archive of living creators whom we admire. A selection of artists that, according to Matador, provide a valuable personal vision to today’s culture. Painters, sculptors, photographers, novelists, poets, playwrights, essayists, philosophers, architects, filmmakers, actors, chefs, musicians, fashion designers, landscape architects… who interest and amaze us.
Six volumes along six years, from A to Z, to be published between 2017 and 2022. Six volumes which, as a whole, will select over 200 names of contemporary creators for a project of 1200 pages. A work to run parallel to Matador magazine, born from it, with its same spirit. A tribute to the artists enlightening several generations.
Matador’s Dictionary is organized in alphabetical entries. Each includes the name and work of one artist. The result is a unique archive of creations, an extraordinary visual document, made by illustrious men and women – original, stimulating, consistent, praiseworthy, influential, exemplary.
In a time when the excessive, the ephemeral and the doubtful rule, Matador stands up for quality, selection, taste and authorship. A defense of the personal and the exquisite, with the challenge and the enjoyment of enclosing the talent we admire inside our Dictionary’s pages.
