The chronic fascination for this distant culture and the perspective of new orientalism.
Matador I is the beginning of a long voyage and the confirmation of our fascination with the Far East, as was already recognised at the Paris Universal Exposition in 1900 where L`Art Nouveau made the Japanese presence felt in Western art. This tenth issue of Matador observes this chronic fascination for this distant culture from the perspective of new orientalism. Beyond false ideologies and commonplaces, the unpublished works of great Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Taiwanese creators are presented, which currently inspire mutual exchange and seduction.
