PHE OjodePez Award for Human Values 2012
In times of crisis and harshness, during which violence and injustice seem to rule the world, the PhotoEspana OjodePez Award for Human Values wantos to give space to tales that tell of the simple, strong and moving stories of everyday life.
Among the 400 participants from over 40 different countries, from Armenia to Chile, the 2012 jury has selected a winner and 9 runner-ups that support, with their work, the idea that the power of human values begins at the core of each individual, with his or her own personal story. Through dramas and wars, povertry and injustice, it is the personal act of choosing, of not giving up, the desire to improve that marks the progress of mankind.
Álvaro Deprit, the winner of the fifth edition of the PhotoEspana OjodePez Award for Human Values, softlye brings us into the suspended lives of clandestine adolescents hosted by "family homes" in Italy. The 9 finalists, each wich their own style and story, also remain faithful to OjodePez's goal of underlining the values of resilience, justice, strength and solidarity, which nurture mankind's continuous hope for a better life.
2012 was also the year of the second edition of the OjodePez Photo Meeting in Barcelona. The 3-day event, masterly curated by FRank Kalero (founder of OjodePez magazine) and perfectly hosted by La Virreina Cultural Center, was an intense experience of photography makers and lovers: round tables, portfolio reviews, conferences, daily projections and meetings.
