A phenomenal programme on heterodox photography, under Alberto García-Alix’s guidance

This publication sums up the group of six exhibitions and one activity, curated by Alberto García-Alix for PHotoESPAÑA 2017. In them, we look toward the heterodox, not as an heresy or unconformity, but as a work which lives outside the rules because it inhabits the author’s most intimate abode: the being.

Paulo Nozolino’s images have a destroyed everything, they question us as they simmer while abstraction gains substance. Antoine d’Agata disrupts, agitates and provokes; we feel vertigo and vital helplessness before his torturing and deconstructing images. Anders Petersen captures and hypnotises us as soon as we go through the door of the legendary Café Lehmitz; its atmosphere immerses us into life, without judgment or artifice. Pierre Molinier, seduced by the double — by his own self —, cross-dresses and makes love to himself in an exercise of fetishistic photography. Karlheinz Weinberger’s naive gaze captures the young rebels — the new barbarians: bikers, rockers, lovers and male prostitutes. And Teresa Margolles uses photography, installation, performance and video to conceptualise and explore the system’s scourges and their presence in death.

Finally, a lab led by Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin is set up in order to provide action and reflection to photographic creation, without imposing rules
or approaches.
