Samuel Aranda (born 1979) has spent the last 15 years documenting conflict, migration and social issues around the world. Working frequently for The New York Times in Spain and the Middle East, he has also completed assignments in Pakistan, Lebanon, Egypt, Yemen, Colombia, China and elsewhere for clients including GEO, Stern, Le Monde and El País Semanal.

His images of the Spanish Crisis, published in The New York Times, set off political debates in Spain and drew attention to the reality and severity of the impacts of the economic collapse on Spain`s working class. In 2012, he was awarded the World Press Photo of the Year for an image from the Yemeni uprising taken while on assignment for The New York Times.

In 2006, his feature about African migrants trying to reach Europe was awarded the Spanish National Award of Photography from ANIGP-TV. His photographs have been exhibited in Telefonica Foundation (Chile), Caixa Foundation (Brasil), CCCB (Barcelona), La Virreina (Barcelona), Visa Pour L’Image (Perpignan), Silk Road Gallery (Tehran) and at the Cervantes Institutes in New York and Tunis.
