Graciela Iturbide is probably Latin America’s best known photographer. Her teacher Manuel Álvarez Bravo encouraged her to develop her own style close to her interests and imagination. In her attention to the indigenous world, her search for symbols and her portraits, Iturbide combines in her work a vision of traditional culture, the incorporation of contemporary resources and a basic dose of poetry. In this conversation loaded with “Mexican time”, she reviews her start as an artist, the discovery of her own country, her interest in India and other matters related to photography.
