Reissue of the first book of Sebastiao Salgado
The first book by Sebastião Salgado, a classic from the 1980s, came out thirty years ago. Otras Américas (1986) was inspired by the countless trips that Salgado took around Latin America between 1977 and 1984, a series of potos that revisit the continent and evoke the survival of peasant and indigenous cultures. The aesthetic power of black and white and the elegant design by Lélia Wanick contributed to the book’s immediate success, and it was hailed with a host of prizes. This new edition features the original texts from the first one, including a lucid reflection on the photography of Gonzalo Torrente Ballester.
