Photoeditor: Alexander Supatorno
The autumn issue of OjodePez revolves Around Postcolonial Photography. The photography editor Alexander Supartono presents works that are simultaneously historical and contemporary showcases of south and southeast Asia, but contextualised in the social and political present. These works explore the process through which artists and photographers (from both the former colonies and the former colonisers) culturally adapted to the tradition of the photographic portrait. Additionally, the issue’s traditional Portfolios section, which features selected works of the PHotoEspaña editions in Madrid (Descubrimientos) and the Americas (Trasatlántica), is joined by EUSA, Canadian photographer Naomi Harris’s reflection on the homogenisation of European and North American cultures, and with Nacido en conflicto (Born in Conflict), a spread in which Juan Arredondo sheds light on child soldiers in Colombia.
